PALMS ON WILSHIRE and Chinese Kitchen

This is "Palms on Wilshire" oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches. I barely finished it in time for my show, I'm actually bringing it to the gallery with me for opening night.

This is "Chinese Kitchen", it is 22 x 28 inches, oil on canvas. I've been putting the figure into alot of my new works, as will be seen in the future.

I really like Chinese Kitchen; it offers a snapshot of life I would not normally see.

Cool job on the steam in the kitchen! Your figures have a very natural look, like you jumped into the kitchen and surprised them by painting their expression in a split second.

Thanks A.R.T.P.,

It's my neighborhood Chinese restaurant, but I actually had to invent alot in this painting.

Hey BG, thanks! Glad you think the figures feel natural... I'm cautiously stepping into the new territory of painting the figure again.

The CK painting has a big impact when you see it in person, a highlight of the show. I also liked the big bridge one.

Thanks Bill, both pieces have a rather tonal quality. I feel that working with the gray palette helps me to emphasize the values for drama. Not always relying on color for impact is a good exercise.
